TEFL-certified, BA in Literature and Drama from Bennington College
Hello! I am a published poet, playwright, and TEFL-certified ESL teacher who focuses on cultivating joy in the classroom through creative lesson planning involving frequent use of games, humor, and interactive exercises. Throughout my career, I have worked with adults and children from across the world, both in school settings and through individual online tutoring. I believe that students of English learn best when they have the opportunity to exercise their creativity! As a rule, I incorporate activities to build skills in reading, writing, speaking, and listening. To help students with various learning styles, I employ a variety of teaching tools including pictures, mime, and role-play. My lessons emphasize pronunciation, and use repetition to ensure long-term retention. In my most recent role at EF International Language Campuses, I planned and taught General English lessons for adult and teenage international students in groups of 10-30, ranging from beginner to advanced level, and facilitated rapid progress in reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Additionally, I provided instruction in two elective classes per semester, including American Literature, Broadway and Theater, The New Yorker, US Culture Studies, and more. Whether you are learning English for business, school, travel, or just for fun, we will customize your lessons to help you achieve your specific learning goals. Typically, I devote the first part of the lesson to new vocabulary and/or grammar, and the second part to conversation, so that you will have the opportunity to practice speaking and listening. I will also help you improve your reading and fine-tune your pronunciation. Learning should be fun; when students are having fun, they learn better!
